Star Athletes Show Up At Shane Hanchey Invitational

Twelve of the top fifteen tie-down ropers in the world show out for 15th Annual Shane Hanchey Invitational

GIDDINGS, Texas.- This year's Shane Hanchey Invitational was a huge success. With over 150 runs, the action never stopped and always kept ropers and spectators alike on their toes. Not to mention, twelve of the fifteen cowboys who qualified for the National Finals Rodeo made an appearance.

This year marked the 15th of Shane Hanchey hosting this incredible event. Hanchey noted this is the 5th year they have hosted it in Giddings, it was previously held in his hometown of Sulphur, Louisiana.

Hanchey is a seasoned veteran in the event of tie-down roping. Making his 14th appearance at the NFR this year and earning one world championship title, some would say he's been around the block.

This jackpot-style roping event consisted of 50 cowboys on three runs, followed by a final round with the top-15 ropers of the day going head to head for the title.

Chance Thiessen was the winner of round one with an outstanding 8.21-second run. Following closely behind was Cole Clemons with his 8.3-second go. Third place went to Quade Hiatt and his 8.43-second effort. Fourth went to Braden Harris with a 8.65-second run, and fifth went to Westyn Hughes clocking at 8.66 seconds.

By round two, the cowboys were warmed up. Riley Webb lead the charge with an impressive 7.80-second win. Narrowly missing the first place spot, Kincade Henry made his best effort with a 7.86-second run. Shad Mayfield established himself with his 8.01-second go. Hunter Herrin look home fourth with an 8.06 and Cash Hooper took home fifth with an 8.09. 

The third round was considerably quicker than the first two rounds. With Bryce Derrer making his presence known, Derrer won the third round with his unbelievable 7.48-second run. Second place was claimed by Macon Murphy his 7.52-second effort. No. 3 in the world standings, Haven Meged, turned in a 7.59-second roping to take the third place spot in the third round. Shad Mayfield once again placed with a 7.60, taking the number four spot and Caleb Smidt earned the fifth place spot with his 7.69. 

The final average results brought no surprise to anybody. Shad "Money" Mayfield brought home the first place spot in the average with an outstanding 34.86-seconds on three head. Cash Hooper came in a close second with his 35.03 on three head. Host, Shane Hanchey crept his was into third place overall with his 36.26-second finish. 

After it was all said and done, they hosted a short round for the top-15 ropers of the day. You guessed it, Shad Mayfield also won the short go-round with his 8.61-second run. Hunter Herrin pulled off second place with an 8.66 go. Cash Hooper finished the round off with placing third place for 8.77-seconds.

Mayfield definitely highlighted the event. Placing in the top-5 in two of the three rounds, winning the average, and winning the short round. Mayfield walked away from Giddings on Sunday $23,960 richer. Mayfield also took home the trophy saddle.

Kaleb Kistner is from New Braunfels, a small community nestled in the Texas Hill Country. There’s only one “s” in Braunfels! Growing up in Comal County, it was an annual tradition to attend the Comal County Fair and Rodeo. Down the road was the San Antonio Stockshow and Rodeo, that his grandparents would religiously take him to each year. Along with the annual rodeos, Kaleb was an active member in FFA throughout high school. Showing rabbits and pigs, assisting with steers and goats, and participating in leadership development events, Kaleb received a well-rounded, basic education in agriculture. On top of that, Kaleb earned his Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America. Kaleb has a strong work ethic and love for agriculture and the great outdoors. He hopes to be able to spread his knowledge and bring a better understanding of the Western way of life to those who may not understand. Kaleb has pursued a career in plumbing, continuing to achieve each possible license as quickly as he can. Kaleb has a beautiful fiancée Makayla and his sweet daughter Kinleigh. During his down time, he and his family enjoy going to their parents’ ranches to spend time with the family.
