Kimzey Officially Qualifies for NFR in Comal County
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas. - The Comal County Fair in New Braunfels, Texas, has been making memories for 130 years. The opening night of the rodeo this year was just that much more memorable for bullrider Sage Kimzey.
After his 88.5-point ride on Lancaster and Cude Pro Rodeo's "Brute", we got a chance to talk to him. When asked about the best part of his season so far, he did not hesitate in saying tonight.
Making it to his 40th rodeo of the year after an injury sidelined him for 6 weeks, this was by far the highlight of his PRCA season. He was so excited to know he'll be making his ninth trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR). He has only missed the NFR one year since Kimzey has had his pro card, his rookie year in 2013.
In order for Xtreme Bulls earnings to count towards the season earnings, the athletes are required to compete in 40 rodeos other than Xtreme Bulls. Kimzey had over $60,000 in Xtreme Bulls earnings, so you can bet getting that 40th rodeo appearance was crucial to get him qualified for the NFR.
The Salado, Texas, native electrified the grandstands with his determination and grit. Kimzey was the last ride of the night, ending Comal County Rodeo with a bang Thursday.
When asked where he was traveling next, Kimzey replied Glendale, Arizona for the PBR event. Kimzey is competing for the Carolina Cowboys at the PBR Ridge Rider Days.
This will be the second time that the Kimzey brothers will compete against each other at the NFR. His brother, Trey Kimzey, is ninth in the PRCA bull riding standings and has $6,000 on his older brother.
With the PRCA regular season coming to an end Saturday night, Kimzey's season finished at the 130th Comal County Fair and Rodeo. Kimzey had a very successful season ending in the No. 10 spot and $142,738 in season earnings. The next time you'll see Kimzey competing in the PRCA will be at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas come Dec. 7 through 16.
