Danielle Lowman's Lightning Run Shocks Fort Worth

If you are a breakaway roping fan, you know the name, Danielle Lowman. She was legendary in the second go of Bracket 7 at the FWSSR.

The Turquoise Circuit and, more specifically, Gilbert, Ariz., could be heard cheering all the way to Fort Worth, Texas, when their cowgirl, Danielle Lowman, roped her second calf at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (FWSSR) in a new arena record of 1.6 seconds.

The two-time Wrangler National Finals cowgirl is a master at being fast. After a slow start at the 2023 WNFR, Lowman came back to win rounds seven, eight and nine. All three wins came with smoking runs under two seconds. In fact, two runs in a row, Lowman completed the run in 1.7 seconds.

She continues her winning ways in Fort Worth and is getting remarkably faster. She is now the proud owner of the legendary FWSSR arena record with her 1.6-second run. Just 24 hours ago, she split the first-round win with Sarah Angelone when both roped their calves in 1.8 seconds.

Lowman recapped her run, "King Pickett ran my calf on his second run, and I knew he went a little left. I thought if I could get a good start, he would wait on me, and he did. When you have the best in the world roping right behind you, you can't back down. You've got to give it all you've got and go for it."

Lowman will be joined in the semifinals by none other than the 23-time World Champion Jackie Crawford, and Sarah Angelone will try to earn her way back in through the wildcard round.

Staying at the roping chute, Chance Oftedahl threw his hands in the air in 7.8 seconds in the tie-down, roping to win the second round. In what fans would have considered one of the toughest brackets, the tie-down roping fell apart a bit in round two. Shad Mayfield kept at it after setting up his run to be fast and then his calf kicking. Keeping his head in the game allowed him to be 16.2 seconds, which was good enough to win fourth in the round and offer him a chance to move on to the semifinals. Along with Shad, Jake Pratt will also be moving on, while Oftedahl will have to have a repeat performance to make it out of the wildcard.

The team ropers turned up the heat in the second round as well, with the World Standings leaders, Dustin Egusquiza and Levi Lord, stopping the clock at a mere 3.8 seconds. They showed the world why they are the best in the world currently and have already won almost $19,000 toward their 2024 NFR bid.

Bracket seven is the end of the regular bracket competition. The next stage is the wildcard round, which will occur on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 7:30 pm CST. The wildcard will be the last event that will determine the semifinals qualifiers.
