The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo kicked off with Round 1 on Dec. 8.

The first round of barrel racing was full of down barrels. Seven out of the 15 competitors hit a barrel or 2 during their first rip down the alley in the Thomas & Mack.

Right out of the gate, Lampasas, Texas cowgirl Brittany Tonozzi ran a beautiful 13.75-second run and was holding a strong lead.

That was until Chapman Ranch, Texas' Sissy Winn, came and laid down a smoking 13.71-second run to win the first round and bumped Tonozzi into the second position.

Winn, guided her 2013 gelding, A R Dash Ta Flame "Scoop" around all three barrels and straight to the top of the leaderboard to kick off her second NFR. Scoop is by the legendary Dash Ta Fame out of a Mr Jess Perry daughter.

Winn and Scoop earned themselves the first place check of $30,706 along with the go-round buckle.

With so many down barrels, the riders that had clean runs are sitting in good position for the overall average.
