College Cowboy Takes World Cup Team Roping Finals By Storm
GUTHRIE, Okla. - With over $2 million in cash and prizes the 2023 World Cup Team Roping Finals hosted by Jeff Smith and 3 Point Productions offers opportunities for all. Taking place from Oct. 22 through 29 at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma, the second annual event features various levels of preliminaries, shoot-outs and “big money” rounds.
The roping requires no qualification for participants, shoot-outs can be earned by making the short-go from the preliminary roping or at World Class Team Roping Championship productions throughout the year.
The fastest team of the week was Dylan Breitsprecher and Trigger Hargrove, who averaged 28.15 seconds over 4 head in the Open Junior Shoot-Out. Ethan Claiborn and Trey Moore were right behind them, with a 30.02 second average in the 10.5 Junior Shoot-Out.
Camden Hoetling and Brandon Hittle championed the 13.5 Preliminary, averaging 32.17 seconds. Close behind the champion time, Hoetling also won second in the 13.5 Preliminary with his partner Austin Lampe, averaging 32.56 seconds.
“The steers in the roping overall were stronger, but consistent,” said Hoetling. “We happened to draw at the better end of them and I think that really helped our chances.” Hoetling, who is a member of Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s rodeo team, had a fantastic week team roping, also placing second in the average at last week’s Central Plains Region college rodeo.
The event also hosted a Rope Horse Sale on Oct. 24 with 94 consigned horses, ranging from yearlings with promising futures, to finished high-caliber rope horses. Visit 3 Points Productions’ website to find a full list of results.
