The Hooey Junior Patriot offers multiple age divisions across all traditional youth rodeo events. Those events include barrel racing, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, tie-down roping, goat tying, team roping (Open and 10.5 incentives), and pole bending.

One thing that makes this rodeo unique is that it offers a $100,000 bonus round to the 19 and under-timed event contestants who can best the winning time from the finals round. The top 3 contestants from each event advance to the bonus round in hopes of posting the fastest time to receive their portion of the $100,000. Similar to The American, if multiple event winners accomplish this task, they split the $100,000 evenly.

These competitors travel from all across the country and qualify through different qualifiers at multiple events throughout the year. Even a few have to qualify through a “last-chance qualifier” the week of the rodeo.

The girl power reigned supreme in the $100,000 bonus round when goat tyer Alli Autrey and pole bender Merrick Moyer took home $50,000 a piece in addition to their winnings from the previous rounds. Autrey posted a blazing 6.33-second run to best her winning time of 6.40 from the previous final round. For the third year in a row, a pole bender came out on top in the bonus round, and Moyer put up an impressive time of 20.256 to capture the win in Fort Worth and add on to her $10,500 from the previous round.

The Junior Patriot gives the youth of rodeo a chance to capitalize on some big-time money and huge opportunities to be in the spotlight early on in their careers. From 7-second tie-down runs in the 12 and under, to $50,000 payouts in the breakaway roping, and the 2024 JR Ironman taking home the Team Roping title, the future looks incredibly bright for rodeo.
