James Harden's Signature Adidas Line is Back on Top
It is easy to forget what a force of nature James Harden was last decade. The unconventional lefty polarized fans as he euro-stepped his way through the NBA for years while barely missing a game.
During Harden's time with the Houston Rockets, he single-handedly pushed the Golden State Warriors dynasty to the brink on multiple occasions. Debate surrounding the offensive juggernaut's play style hit a new high when the 2017 NBA MVP Award went to Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook.
However, one constant backer of Harden was adidas. The German company signed the sixth man turned superstar to a 13-year, $200 million sneaker deal in August 2015. A little over a year later, Harden's signature sneaker line launched to critical acclaim.
Much like the star's unorthodox style, the Harden Vol. 1 leaned into its differences. The major marketing push included commercials and Instagram vignettes for each colorway. Unfortunately, trades and injuries beset Harden's career for the past years, which pushed his signature line to the back burner of many fans' minds.
But there is once again reason for excitement surrounding Harden's kicks. After months of anticipation, the Harden Vol. 7 was officially introduced to the public on February 28.
The design of the performance basketball shoe looks unlike anything else on the market at this time - and that's the sort of bold risk-taking required to rejuvenate Harden's signature line. Below is everything fans must know about the Harden Vol. 7.
adidas Harden Vol. 7
The Harden Vol. 7 is launching on Thursday, March 2, for $160 in adult sizes. Three colorways have already been announced, with many more on the way; 'Red Luxury,' 'Silver Metallic,' and 'Yellow.'
The shoe takes inspiration from Harden’s off-the-court fashion, which will blur the lines between fashion, performance, and lifestyle. If Harden fans squint, they can see subtle nods to previous models through the knit upper bootie, heavily padded textile quarter panels, and toe cap.
There is a dual-layered heel counter, while full-length propulsion plates work with a multi-directional herringbone traction pattern for an upgraded foundation. A Jet boost midsole infused with Lightstrike materials provides the cushion.
One accurate bellwether of a shoe's popularity is if NBA players wear it on the hardwood. So far this season, there has been no shortage of adidas-sponsored athletes rocking the unreleased hoop shoes on the court.
Even better, Harden is healthy, averaging over 21 points and ten assists per game. The Philadelphia 76ers will need Harden's veteran prowess and experience to make their way through the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Luckily for 76ers fans, the future is now, and Harden's been ready for this moment for years.
