Wednesday was a disappointing day for fans of the late great Kobe Bryant. Not only was he dearly missed on what would have been his 45th birthday, but insult was added to injury when Nike purposefully limited the release of his sneakers.

According to Vanessa Bryant, Nike wanted the Kobe 8 Protro 'Halo' to be "limited" and "collectible" for fans. While that was very disheartening, online shoppers could be getting another shot at purchasing some of Bryant's most popular sneakers.

According to multiple sources, basketball shoes from the signature Nike Kobe line will be released in a shock drop at some point today. The social media account @DailySnkrsStock provided the number of stock Nike is rumored to release today.

The Nike Kobe 6 Protro 'Grinch' is releasing in 692 units, the Nike Kobe 6 Protro 'Mambacita' is releasing in 1,740 units, the Nike Kobe 4 Protro 'Gigi' is releasing in 5,915 units, and the Nike Kobe 5 Protro 'Hall of Fame' is releasing in 1,024 units.

Obviously, this is another small-scale release. But our loyal readers need to have the Nike SNKRS app ready to go today if they hope to purchase a pair of these rare sneakers at retail price. Stay locked into FanNation Kicks for all your sneaker news.

Update

Nike held its shock drop of Kobe sneakers at 8:24 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on Thursday, August 24. As expected, all of the shoes sold out within seconds. Online shoppers must resort to sneaker resale websites and pay exorbitant prices for the highly sought-after sneakers. Consider this yet another disappointing day for fans of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.
