Athletes and fans do not need extra reasons to be excited about a sneaker release from the signature line of Kobe Bryant. However, basketball fans of a certain age and viewers of the Netflix documentary The Redeem Team desperately want the kicks Bryant wore during the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Who can blame them? Bryant was at the apex of his game and gearing up for two more championships. Even better, his sneaker line with Nike was hitting its stride at that time, too.

Luckily for sneakerheads, the Nike Kobe 4 'Gold Medal' is making its return as part of the Protro series (performance + retro) in Fall 2024, according to Sneaker Files. Online shoppers will be able to purchase the iconic hoop shoes for $190 in adult sizes on the Nike website and SNKRS app. Below is everything you must know about the kicks.

The fourth signature sneaker from the Nike Kobe line was not the first low-cut basketball shoe, but it did usher in the low-top revolution. After studying soccer players' movement and footwear, Bryant worked with Nike's design team to create a low-cut shoe.

Thanks to clever marketing, high-top sneakers have always benefited from the myth that they protect against lower-body injuries. While the truth is fit and heel support is key to preventing sprained ankles.

Bryant introduced the Nike Kobe 4 after his MVP season but before his back-to-back championship runs with the Los Angeles Lakers. Roughly a decade later, Nike brought the model back as part of the Protro series and has steadily released new and OG colorways over the past four years.

With the recent re-launch of "Kobe Brand," it is an exciting time for hoops fans worldwide. Let's just hope that Nike manufactures enough of the highly anticipated sneakers for everyone. Follow FanNationKicks.com for all your sneaker news.
