Tiger Woods Debuts New Sun Day Red Golf Shoes at The Masters
At 48 years old, Tiger Woods is still hanging with the younger golfers and making history on the course. Woods finished Friday at one over par and made the cut for a record 24th consecutive time at The Masters. It was also the first time he did so without wearing any Nike apparel.
In January, Woods and Nike officially parted ways after a historic 27-year partnership that reimagined sportswear and golf culture. Not wasting time, Woods and TaylorMade launched the standalone brand Sun Day Red to much fanfare the following month. You can read our full story here.
While all eyes are always on Woods, is is especially true during The Masters. Naturally, the iconic figure used the opportunity to debut apparel and footwear from his new brand. Woods debuted unreleased attire consisting of a mauve polo with a white hat, pants, and shoes.
As always, our focus is on the footwear. At first glance, Woods' first signature golf shoe with Sun Day Red is not that different from the models he previously wore with FootJoy. However, the details make a huge difference.
The Sun Day Red 'Tiger' logo appears on the heels with 'SDR' on the back of midsoles. Inspired by Woods' meticulous attention to detail, the Sun Day Red logo incorporates his 15 major championship wins within the design of the signature brand Tiger.
Sun Day Red will launch its first line of apparel for men on May 1, 2024, and will be made available online in the United States and Canada. Over time, Sun Day Red will expand its availability in key markets outside of North America, at retail, and broaden its product offering to include footwear, women's and kids’ lines.
According to Sun Day Red, the brand "was built from the ground up to be one of the most sought-after lifestyle brands, with a full range of premium apparel and footwear. The team at Sun Day Red is working closely with Woods to mine his extensive knowledge and expertise in performance apparel and footwear."
Sun Day Red is a stand-alone brand with a dedicated team of designers and staff, as well as its own headquarters. Woods and TaylorMade have added top leaders from fashion and culture to run the brand including Brad Blankinship, who has been appointed president of Sun Day Red and will oversee day-to-day management.
It is always exciting to see Woods playing in Augusta, but it takes on new meaning when the golf icon is forging his own path in the performance apparel and footwear industry. Stay locked into FanNation Kicks for all your sneaker news from the sports world.
