Under Armour Trolls Nike's Olympics Track & Field Kits
We are just over 100 days until the Opening Ceremonies for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. The quadrennial event is big business for sports apparel brands, but only if they nail the dismount.
On Friday afternoon, fans and athletes got their first look at Nike's new kits for Team USA's track and field participants. The women’s one-piece suit drew immediate criticism for its design, which left little to the imagination.
Social media users were quick to question the high-cut design on the legs of the women's kits. Under Armour, which treats trolling Nike on social media like a sport, did not miss the opportunity to poke fun at its competitor's misfortune.
Under Armour's spicy social media manager quote-tweeted the original post by Citius Mag with a picture of Under Armour's running gear and added the caption, "Runners - we got you covered."
This is far from the first time that Under Armour has poked fun at Nike. In February, Under Armour capitalized on Nike's baseball pants fiasco that is still plaguing MLB. That came less than a week after Under Armour clapped back in Nike's mentions about the three-point shootout at NBA All-Star Weekend.
Under Armour has a long history of bold marketing campaigns and that now includes hopping in the replies of its competitors on social media. More importantly, the Maryland-based brand backs up its brash talk by providing high-quality performance gear to its athletes.
The brand is fresh off a big win with the South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team winning the 2024 NCAA Championship. Meanwhile, long-distance runner Sharon Lokedi will represent Under Armour in the Boston Marathon on Monday. Also, we cannot forget that Stephen Curry is gearing up for another NBA playoff push.
Meanwhile, sports fans can expect to see the Swoosh all over Team USA gear through at least the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. From there, the brand reportedly has an extension option through 2032. It is safe to say that Under Armour will be poised to pounce on any misstep in the meantime.
The 2024 Summer Olympic Games will start on July 26, with track and field events beginning on August 1. Stay locked into FanNation Kicks for more updates on this story as well as all your footwear and apparel news from the sports world.
