Liverpool Player Ratings Against Real Madrid: 3/10 Joe Gomez At Fault For Three Goals
Liverpool went from 2-0 up to 5-2 down as they failed to make home advantage count against Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League last 16 first leg.
These two teams will face off again in the second leg in Madrid on March 15.
But before switching our attention to that game, we rated how Liverpool's 11 starters performed at Anfield.
Liverpool Player Ratings Against Real Madrid
Alisson 4/10
Gifted an equalizing goal to Real when he hammered an attempted clearance straight at Vinicius Junior.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 5/10
Looked tidy on the ball but lost his one-on-one battle with Vinicius.
Virgil van Dijk 5/10
One of his worst ever games for Liverpool.
Joe Gomez 3/10
Was at fault for three goals. Put Alisson under pressure with a poor back-pass that led to Real's second. Gave away an unnecessary free-kick that resulted in Real's third. Gomez then played Rodrygo onside in the build-up to Real's fourth, which hit the net after the Reds center-back had deflected Karim Benzema's shot past Alisson.
Andy Robertson 6/10
Much more defensively solid than Trent. Produced a stunning interception in the six-yard box to stop Rodrygo scoring late in the first half.
Fabinho 4/10
In the team primarily for defensive solidity but was far from solid. Offered nothing going forward either.
Stefan Bajcetic 5/10
Became the youngest player ever to start a Champions League game for Liverpool, aged 18 years and 122 days. Was industrious and brave in his play. Will have learned a lot from sharing a pitch with Real's midfield masters.
Jordan Henderson 6/10
Offered more creatively than both Fabinho and Bajcetic but was still put in the shade by Luka Modric and Co.
Cody Gakpo 6/10
Pressed really well on his first Champions League appearance since joining Liverpool, but slipped inside the penalty area when presented with a big early chance. Also did a poor job of marking Eder Militao for Real's third goal.
Darwin Nunez 6/10
Produced a superb finish to give Liverpool an early lead but struggled to get into the game after that.
Mohamed Salah 8/10
Liverpool's best player by far and now the club's all-time leading scorer in European competitions. Scored one goal and assisted another. Completed more dribbles than any of his teammates.
