Aitana Bonmati has become the seventh different footballer to win The Best FIFA Women's Player award.

The Spain and Barcelona midfielder was confirmed as the 2023 winner at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in London on Monday.

Bonmati, 25, topped the vote ahead of Spain teammate Jenni Hermoso and Real Madrid's teenage Colombian starlet Linda Caicedo.

Carli Lloyd won the first edition of The Best FIFA Women's Player award in 2016.

The prize has also been won by Lieke Martens, Marta, Megan Rapinoe, Lucy Bronze and twice by Alexia Putellas.

FIFA's 2023 women's awards were based on performances from August 1, 2022 to August 20, 2023.

During this period, Bonmati won four major team titles.

After helping Barcelona triumph in the Liga F, UEFA Women's Champions League and Supercopa de Espana Femenina last season, Bonmati was the stand-out performer in Spain's victorious campaign at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Bonmati produced three goals and two assists in seven games at the World Cup, where she received the Golden Ball award for being the Player of the Tournament.

She also won the Ballon d'Or Feminin in October last year.
