Argentina U20 Striker Alejo Veliz Joins Tottenham From Rosario Central
Tottenham Hotspur have signed 19-year-old striker Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central in Argentina.
Veliz, who has represented Argentina at U20 level, has signed a six-year contract with Spurs.
Local reports in Rosario have claimed that Spurs will pay a transfer fee in the region of £14.5 million plus add-ons.
Nottingham Forest had also been interested in Veliz, who made his senior debut for Rosario in July 2021 and went on to score 19 goals in 62 appearances for the club.
Speaking in Spanish, Veliz said in his first official interview as a Tottenham player: "Now I'm here it is like I'm touching the heavens with my hands."
He added: "When I first found out about everything that was happening and that the club were interested in me, to be honest I could not believe it. It really did not sink in until I actually arrived here.
"I'm coming here with a huge desire to do well. I'm totally on board and one hundred percent focused on the task in hand here.
"I'm really pleased and grateful to have my family here with me. They're always with me.
"And I'm totally fulfilling a dream by coming here today to such a massive club.
"I'll be doing my best to grab my opportunity and hopefully everything will go as well as it possibly can."
Veliz went on to describe his playing style, saying that he is "very good in the air" and that he is a "very passionate player who gives absolutely everything".
He vowed: "I'm going to give everything I can for this shirt."
The squad number on that shirt will be no.36.
Spurs now have three Argentine players in their first team, with Veliz having joined Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso in Ange Postecoglou's squad.
