Ligue 1 Golden Boot Race Hots Up After Alexandre Lacazette Scores Four In Nine-Goal Epic
Alexandre Lacazette and Elye Wahi scored four goals each as Lyon beat Montpellier in a thrilling game in France's Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Lyon came from 4-1 down to win 5-4 at Groupama Stadium.
Lacazette fired Lyon in front just after the half-hour mark but Wahi netted goals in the 40th, 41st, 53rd and 55th minutes to give the away side a commanding lead.
Lyon stormed back though as Lacazette scored another three. Dejan Lovren also found the net as part of the remarkable turnaround.
Lacazette's first three strikes were all assisted by Bradley Barcola but the final goal of the night came from the penalty spot.
After a VAR review found Christopher Jullien guilty of pulling Lacazette's shirt, the former Arsenal forward hammered home the winner from 12 yards in the 10th minute of added time.
Lacazette's four-goal haul temporarily took him clear of Kylian Mbappe in the race for the Golden Boot in Ligue 1.
But Mbappe scored later on Sunday as Paris Saint-Germain won 3-1 at Troyes.
Mbappe and Lacazette are now tied on 24 goals each, while both have also registered four assists this season.
PSG frontman Mbappe has ended each of the last four seasons as the leading scorer in Ligue 1 but Lacazette now has a real chance of dethroning him.
Both Lyon and PSG have four fixtures remaining.
Lyon still have to face Clermont, Monaco, Reims and Nice.
PSG's last four games are against Ajaccio, Auxerre, Strasbourg and Clermont.
