Alexis Mac Allister left the field in tears after his final game for Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

The 24-year-old Argentina international played the full 90 minutes as Brighton lost 2-1 at Aston Villa.

Midfielder Mac Allister was Brighton's top scorer this season with 10 Premier League goals.

Brighton recorded their best ever top-flight finish of sixth to qualify for next season's UEFA Europa League.

But Mac Allister will not play for Brighton in their first ever European campaign as he is set to transfer away from the AMEX Stadium in the coming weeks.

Liverpool are strong favorites to sign Mac Allister, who joined Brighton from Argentinos Juniors in 2019.

Moises Caicedo is also expected to leave Brighton this summer, with Chelsea and Arsenal both keen to sign the Ecuadorian defensive midfielder.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi was pictured hugging an emotional Mac Allister following Sunday's game.

De Zerbi later told reporters at Villa Park: "I think that can be the last game of Alexis and Moises, I'm really sorry.

"They are two great people and two great players."

De Zerbi added: "The policy of Brighton is like this. I think it's right they can leave, can change teams and play in a level higher.

"We are ready. We have to find other big players to play without Alexis and Moises."
