Over the past two windows Chelsea's net spend on transfer fees has been a remarkable €620 million.

Chelsea splurged spectacularly on new players in the summer and then again in January as owner Todd Boehly looked to make his mark on the team.

No other Premier League club came near to matching Chelsea in the spending stakes this season.

Manchester United and Nottingham Forest were the closest, with net spends of €240m and €229m over the last two windows.

However, Chelsea are not that far ahead of their rivals when you look at net spend over the past five seasons.

Research from the CIES Football Observatory has shown that Chelsea's net spend on transfer fees from and including the summer of 2018 has been €749m.

Man United's net spend during this period was just €79m less, at €670m, while the other top spenders were Arsenal (€544m), Tottenham (€477m), West Ham (€435m) and Newcastle (€422m).

At the other end of the table, Brentford have only spent €40m net on transfer fees in the last 10 windows.

Meanwhile, Manchester City sit 16th, having enjoyed profitable seasons in terms of transfer business in 2022/23 and 2018/19.
