Andre Onana accepted full responsibility for Manchester United taking zero points from Wednesday's UEFA Champions League Group A opener away to Bayern Munich.

The United keeper was at fault for Bayern's first goal as his handling error allowed Leroy Sane to open the scoring from outside of the penalty area.

United eventually lost 4-3 following further strikes from Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane and Mathys Tel at the Allianz Arena.

Casemiro scored twice in defeat for United after summer signing Rasmus Hojlund had netted his first goal for the club.

Onana spoke to TNT Sports after the match and said: "It's difficult to lose this way because in the beginning we started very good and after my mistake we lost control of the game."

He added: "It's a difficult situation for us and for me especially. I'm the one who let the team down.

"But the team was very good. It's because of me we didn't win this game.

"So, I'm happy for the work of the team. We just have to move on. This is the life of the goalkeeper."
