Angelo Gabriel Confirmed As Chelsea's Fourth Summer Signing As He Becomes 18th Brazilian Player In Club's 118-Year History

Chelsea completed their fourth signing of the summer on Sunday when Brazil youth international Angelo Gabriel arrived from Santos.

The Blues have paid Santos a transfer fee in the region of £13 million for the 18-year-old, who has represented his country in the U15, U17 and U20 age groups.

Angelo's move to Stamford Bridge comes after Chelsea had already signed Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson, France forward Christopher Nkunku and Portugal U21 winger Diego Moreira this summer.

Chelsea fans could get to see some of these new players on Wednesday night in a pre-season friendly against Wrexham in North Carolina.

A statement published on ChelseaFC.com on Sunday read: "Chelsea has completed the signing of Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel from Santos."

The statement continued: "Born in Brasilia, the 18-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge with a wealth of senior football under his belt; he made 129 first-team appearances for Santos across all competitions.

"A left-footed winger who was regularly utilised off the right side of Santos' frontline, Angelo became the youngest player in the history of the Brazil national championship when he made his debut against Fluminense in the Maracana, aged just 15 years and 308 days.

"In April 2021, the Brazil Under-20 international scored his first senior goal, a close-range finish away to Lorenzo in the Copa Libertadores. In doing so he became the youngest goalscorer in that historic competition. He scored four more times for Santos and claimed ten assists.

"Welcome to Chelsea, Angelo!"

Angelo is the 18th Brazilian player to be signed by Chelsea in the club's 118-year history.

He follows in the footsteps of Emerson Thome, Alex, Alcides, Juliano Belletti, Mineiro, David Luiz, Ramires, Lucas Piazon, Oscar, Wallace Oliveira, Willian, Filipe Luis, Alexandre Pato, Kenedy, Nathan, Thiago Silva and Andrey Santos.
