Brazil's bid for a third consecutive Olympic gold in men's football is over.

The Selecao failed to qualify for Paris 2024 after losing to rivals Argentina at CONMEBOL's Pre-Olympic Tournament in Venezuela.

After losing 1-0 to Paraguay and beating Venezuela 2-1, Brazil went into Sunday's final group game against Argentina needing to win.

But a goal from Luciano Gondou saw Argentina prevail 1-0.

That result saw Argentina finish second in the four-team group and join Paraguay in qualifying for this summer's Paris Games.

Twelve men's teams have now qualified for the Olympic tournament, which will start on July 24 and end on August 9.

They are France, USA, Dominican Republic, Spain, Israel, Ukraine, Morocco, Egypt, Mali, New Zealand, Paraguay and Argentina.

There are four more spots to be filled. At least three teams from Asia will qualify based on their performances at the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup in April and May.

The final place will be awarded to the winner of a play-off between Guinea and the team that finishes fourth at the U23 Asian Cup.
