Arsenal ended the 2022/23 season on a high by beating Wolves 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Granit Xhaka netted twice for the Gunners before Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Jakub Kiwior joined him on the scoresheet.

Sunday's victory took Arsenal to 84 points.

While that still left Mikel Arteta's side five points below champions Manchester City - who lost 1-0 at Brentford on Sunday - it represented remarkable progress for the Gunners.

Arsenal had averaged under 64 points across the previous five seasons and had not earned more than 75 points since 2004/05 when they came second with 83.

Over the last 31 seasons since the Premier League began, Arsenal have only finished with more than 84 points on two occasions.

The Gunners won the title with 90 points in 2003/04 after completing the only unbeaten season in EPL history.

Two years earlier in 2001/02, Arsenal topped the table with 87 points.

Arsenal's only other EPL title was won with just 78 points in the 1997/98 season.

Eighty-four points would have been enough to win the Premier League in nine of its 31 editions, but in just one of the last 13.
