Barcelona have been eliminated from the Champions League during the group phase for the second season in a row.

Inter Milan's 4-0 win over Viktoria Plzen in the early game on Tuesday made it impossible for Barca to finish in the top two in Group C.

A bad night for Barca then got even worse as they were thrashed 3-0 at home by table-toppers Bayern Munich.

Sadio Mane, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Benjamin Pavard got the goals for Bayern, who could have won by an even greater margin.

Serge Gnabry had a goal disallowed by a VAR review early in the second half.

Xavi Hernandez's side failed to record a single shot on target against Bayern.

The biggest moment of excitement for the home side came in first-half stoppage time when the referee initially gave a penalty to Barca for an apparent foul by Matthijs de Ligt on Robert Lewandowski.

But a VAR review found that De Ligt had got a touch on the ball and the penalty was unawarded.

Barcelona Back In Europa League

Regardless of their result in Plzen next week, Barcelona will finish third in their Champions League group.

That will see them demoted to the Europa League.

Barca will enter the Europa League at the last 32 stage. They will play a team that finishes second in the Europa League group phase.

Possible opponents for Barca include Manchester United and Roma.
