Barcelona Out Of Europa League After Rare Loss To Manchester United
Manchester United 2-1 Barcelona (4-3 Agg)
Barcelona exited the UEFA Europa League after a 2-1 defeat at Manchester United on Thursday night.
After the first leg had ended 2-2 at the Camp Nou seven days earlier, Barcelona took the lead at Old Trafford.
Robert Lewandowski converted an 18th-minute penalty kick after Bruno Fernandes had fouled Alejandro Balde.
But United hit back to win 4-3 on aggregate after goals from two Brazilians.
Fred drew United level just after half-time when he shot past Barca keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen using his right shin.
The winning goal was scored by Antony. It arrived in the 73rd minute and was hit much more cleanly than Fred's effort.
Thursday's result was United's first win against Barca since Paul Scholes scored in a 1-0 Champions League semi-final victory back in 2008.
Barca, who have only lost once in 22 La Liga matches this season, had beaten United four times since then.
The draw for the Europa League round of 16 will take place on Friday.
