Belgium Beaten In Final Game Before World Cup
Egypt 2-1 Belgium
Belgium will go into their opening game of the 2022 World Cup on the back of consecutive defeats after losing to Egypt in a friendly on Friday.
Fifty-four days after falling to a 1-0 defeat by Holland in their final game of the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League, Belgium were beaten 2-1 by Egypt in Kuwait.
Belgium named an experienced XI - including Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois - at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium.
But the side ranked second in the world were 2-0 down after 46 minutes thanks to goals scored by Mostafa Mohamed and Trezeguet.
Liverpool forward Mo Salah, who assisted Mohamed for the opening goal, played 88 minutes for Egypt.
Belgium had 67% of possession but only registered two shots on target - three fewer than Egypt.
Lois Openda scored a 76th-minute consolation goal for Belgium, who came third at the last World Cup in 2018.
Belgium will start their Qatar 2022 campaign on Wednesday when they take on Canada in their Group F opener.
Morocco and 2018 finalists Croatia are the other teams in Group F.
