Birmingham Fan Who Was Jailed For Punching Jack Grealish Dies Aged 32
The Birmingham City fan who served jail time for punching soccer star Jack Grealish has died at the age of 32.
Paul Mitchell was found dead in Birmingham this week.
Mitchell made headlines in March 2019 when he invaded the pitch at St Andrew's stadium and attacked Grealish from behind during an EFL Championship game between Birmingham and Aston Villa.
Grealish, who now plays for Manchester City, was the captain of Villa back then and scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory after being floored by the attack.
Mitchell was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison for the assault but was released after serving four.
After being released, he said of his time in jail: "It was the best month of my life. It was hard being away from my family but everything was good."
When asked about the incident with Grealish, he added: "I'm not apologizing for nothing."
Despite being best known for his act of soccer violence, Mitchell's cousin Lucy told The Sun this week that he "had the kindest heart".
She added: "Paul absolutely adored his three children.
"He always had a smile on his face no matter what."
