Premier League Confirms Bournemouth Vs Luton Will Be Replayed In Full
The Premier League has confirmed that the game between Bournemouth and Luton Town that was abandoned on Saturday will be replayed in full.
Luton captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the field at the Vitality Stadium in the 59th minute after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Lockyer received emergency treatment at the stadium and was "alert and responsive" before being taken to hospital.
However, the game did not restart because "players from both sides were in no state of mind to continue", as explained by a Luton club statement.
The score had been tied at 1-1 when play was suspended after goals from Elijah Adebayo and Dominic Solanke.
But those goals have since been removed from the record books.
Bournemouth vs Luton will start afresh at 0-0 at a later date.
A Premier League statement issued on Tuesday read: "Following the on-field medical emergency involving Luton Town FC player Tom Lockyer, the Premier League Board has decided last Saturday’s AFC Bournemouth v Luton Town FC fixture will be replayed in full.
"The game will be rescheduled for later in the season, with a date to be confirmed following consultation with relevant parties.
"The decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute was made collectively between the match officials, players, managers from both clubs and the Premier League.
"The League would like to thank the medical staff and all those involved for their swift actions in responding to what was an extremely upsetting situation for everyone. We wish Tom a continued recovery and our thoughts are with him, his family and all those at Luton Town FC."
A second statement then revealed that all FPL (Fantasy Premier League) points earned by Bournemouth and Luton players during Saturday's incomplete game "will be voided".
