Sadio Mane Scores Two Goals As Brazil Suffer Another Defeat Against African Opposition
Sadio Mane scored two second-half goals as Senegal recorded a first ever win over Brazil on Tuesday night.
Mane wrapped up an entertaining 4-2 victory with a 97th-minute penalty kick at Lisbon's Estadio Jose Alvalade.
The Bayern Munich forward had earlier found the net with a fine curling strike past keeper Ederson.
Brazil named a star-studded starting XI and went ahead inside 11 minutes when Vinicius Junior set up Lucas Paqueta for the game's opening goal.
But Senegal hit back. Habib Diallo leveled and then a Marquinhos own goal put the African champions ahead, moments before Mane made it 3-1.
Marquinhos scored at the correct end to spark hope of a Brazil comeback but Mane's late penalty made sure of a famous win for Senegal.
Brazil have now lost three of their last six matches, with all of those defeats coming against teams from Africa.
A 1-0 loss to Cameroon in the World Cup group stage ended Brazil's run of nine straight wins.
Brazil later began 2023 by losing 2-1 to Morocco.
