Bruno Fernandes gave Manchester United an early lead against Crystal Palace on Saturday by scoring the 45th penalty goal of his senior career.

The former Sporting Lisbon playmaker coolly converted from 12 yards on seven minutes after a VAR review had found Will Hughes guilty of handling a Marcus Rashford cross.

Fernandes had failed to score from his previous two penalties for United - against Aston Villa and Arsenal in last season's Premier League.

But his overall career conversion rate is still a healthy 90%.

Fernandes has taken 50 penalties in total, not including those in shootouts.

Three of his five penalty misses have come during his United career.

His others were for Udinese in 2016 and Sporting in 2018.

United went on to beat Palace 2-1 on Saturday, despite ending the game with 10 players after Casemiro was shown a straight red card in the second half.
