Chelsea And Real Madrid Make Winning Starts In Women's Champions League
Chelsea emulated Arsenal by recording an impressive away win in France on Thursday night.
Arsenal had thrashed reigning champions Lyon 5-1 on Wednesday as the Women's Champions League group stage got off to a remarkable start.
Twenty-four hours later, Chelsea won 1-0 at Paris Saint-Germain thanks to a 27th-minute strike from Millie Bright.
Elsewhere in Chelsea's group, Real Madrid beat Vllaznia 2-0 in Albania where Esther Gonzalez and Olga found the net in the second half.
In Group B, Ewa Pajor scored twice for Wolfsburg in a 4-0 win over Austria's St. Polten, while Roma beat Slavia Prague 1-0 in Italy courtesy of an Emilie Haavi goal.
Chelsea's win over PSG saw them beat a team that had been in six Women's Champions League semi-finals in the last eight seasons.
Chelsea general manager Paul Green believes that this week's results are evidence of the impressive progress being made by women's soccer in England.
Green told BBC Sport: "I think it shows how far the English league has come that ourselves and Arsenal have come to the top two teams in France and got two victories.
"I think it's a really positive thing for the English league and does show how far it's come.
"In years gone by, it was probably unthinkable that teams would come to France and win games like this."
"Women's football is riding the crest of a wave after the Euros. Players coming back into club environments are bringing positivity with them, so that's part of it."
