Chelsea have completed a deal to sign Jamaica international Dujuan Richards.

The striker will join Chelsea from Kingston's Phoenix All Stars Academy midway through the 2023/24 season following his 18th birthday in October.

Richards had also attracted interest from Newcastle United.

He spent two weeks on trial with Newcastle earlier this year before ultimately deciding that Chelsea was the Premier League club for him.

Richards is currently with the Jamaica national team playing in the Gold Cup in Canada and the United States.

He has been capped three times at senior level but was an unused substitute on Saturday night when Jamaica kicked off the tournament by drawing 1-1 with the USMNT.

Richards is often referred to by his nickname, 'Whisper'.

Explaining how he earned the nickname from his teammates and coaches, Richards once said: "I don't speak a lot, I listen much, much more. That's why they call me Whisper."

His new club issued a statement on Saturday. It began: "Chelsea has completed the signing of Jamaica international Dujuan 'Whisper' Richards, who will join the club next season following his 18th birthday."
