Chelsea Confirm Enzo Fernandez Squad Number

Chelsea have confirmed that new signing Enzo Fernandez will wear the no.5 jersey following his arrival at Stamford Bridge. His preferred squad number was 13.

Chelsea confirmed on Wednesday that new signing Enzo Fernandez will wear the no.5 jersey following his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Fernandez had worn no.13 at former clubs Benfica and River Plate but that number is currently allocated to back-up goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

The last Chelsea player to hold the no.5 squad number had been Jorginho.

Jorginho left Chelsea to join Arsenal just hours before the EPL-record deal to sign Fernandez had been finalized on transfer deadline day.

Prior to Jorginho, Chelsea's no.5 jersey had been worn by the likes of Kurt Zouma, Michael Essien, Alexei Smertin and Frank Leboeuf during the Premier League era.
