Chelsea Lose Five Straight Games For First Time Since 1993
Chelsea are on their worst run of form in nearly 30 years after losing at home to Brentford on Wednesday.
Brentford took the lead at Stamford Bridge with a Cesar Azpilicueta own goal before Bryan Mbeumo wrapped up a 2-0 victory for the away side.
Since hiring club legend Frank Lampard as interim manager earlier this month, Chelsea have lost five games in a row in all competitions.
The Blues had not suffered five consecutive defeats since 1993.
But they lost 1-0 at Wolves in Lampard's first assignment, before falling to a 2-0 defeat at Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. That was followed by a 2-1 home reverse against Brighton and then another 2-0 loss to Real.
After Chelsea's European exit, Lampard had eight days to prepare for Wednesday's west London derby with Brentford but he was still unable to mastermind a positive result.
It is unclear whether Lampard will remain in his role until the end of the season.
Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be named as Chelsea's next permanent manager.
It was initially understood that the Argentine would prefer to wait until the summer before taking the reigns at Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly could now try to convince Pochettino to start sooner in order to stop the rot under Lampard.
Chelsea's fans booed and jeered at full-time on Wednesday. Lampard was asked about this in a post-game interview when he told BBC Sport: "No problem with that, completely understand it.
"I know these fans very well and they stick by their team. They feel down because they are used to success and they want that success all the time as we all do. I absolutely understand it, we as players and staff have to take it on the chin because they want results.
"I can say to the fans now that the players are showing application. Brentford had one shot on target and scored two goals, that kind of says it all tonight."
