Enzo Fernandez is the most expensive soccer player ever to be bought by a Premier League club after joining Chelsea from Benfica for a transfer fee of €121 million (£106.8m).

His transfer eclipsed the £100m deal that saw Jack Grealish join Manchester City from Aston Villa in August 2021.

Fernandez has signed a contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2031.

Chelsea will pay Fernandez's transfer fee to Benfica in six instalments.

Benfica will make a huge profit on Fernandez, having signed the 22-year-old from River Plate for around £16m in June.

Fernandez impressed in 17 league starts for Benfica but it was his World Cup campaign with Argentina that really saw his stock rocket skywards.

He featured in all seven of Argentina's games at Qatar 2022, including the final.

Fernandez won the FIFA Young Player Award after helping Argentina win the World Cup for the first time since 1986.
