Chelsea have broken the British transfer record for the second time in 195 days after completing the signing of Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

Caicedo moved to Stamford Bridge on Monday after Chelsea agreed to pay Brighton £115 million.

Brighton will receive a guaranteed sum of £100m plus a further £15m in performance-related add-ons, which insiders close to the deal have described as "easily achievable".

The Seagulls could eventually earn even more than £115m from the deal as it includes a sell-on clause, meaning Caicedo's former team will receive a significant percentage of any fee paid to Chelsea if and when the player is sold by the London club.

But Chelsea do not intend to sell Caicedo for a long time, having handed the 21-year-old an eight-year contract until June 2031.

Chelsea also have an option to extend Caicedo's contract by a further 12 months.

Caicedo will link-up with Argentina's Enzo Fernandez in the center of midfield for Chelsea.

The Blues had made Fernandez the most expensive player ever bought by a British club back in January when they paid Benfica a transfer fee of £106.8m.

Caicedo played 37 Premier League games for Brighton last season.

He had also been wanted by Liverpool, who had a £111m offer accepted by Brighton last week.

But Caicedo rejected a move to Anfield as he had his heart set on joining Chelsea.

Caicedo had been pictured in a Chelsea jersey when he was a teenager. A photo of him decked out in Chelsea blue while sat next to his mother in the trunk of a car had previously gone viral on social media.

Chelsea recreated that scene to make Caicedo's announcement video.
