Premier League assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis has been suspended less than 24 hours after appearing to elbow Liverpool defender Andy Robertson.

Hatzidakis lifted his arm towards Robertson's face after the Scot approached him at half-time in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Robertson responded by shouting: "He's just elbowed me in the throat, the linesman has elbowed me in the throat!"

Hatzidakis returned to the sideline after the half-time interval and fulfilled his duties until the end of the match.

But the PGMOL, the organization in charge of professional referees in England, issued a statement on Monday confirming that Hatzidakis will not be appointed to any more matches until an investigation into the incident has been concluded.

The statement read: "PGMOL will not be appointing Constantine Hatzidakis to fixtures in any of the competition it serves whilst The FA investigates the incident involving the assistant referee and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at Anfield."
