Cristiano Ronaldo believes that Manchester City are capable of winning the UEFA Champions League again this season... but he is hoping that they will not.

City beat Inter Milan 1-0 in last year's final and are now aiming to become only the second team to win the tournament in consecutive campaigns since the UCL rebrand in 1992.

Ronaldo was part of a Real Madrid side that won three in a row between 2016 and 2018.

The former Madrid star took part in an on-stage Q&A session at Friday's Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai.

Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker were also on stage when Ronaldo was asked about City's European chances this season.

Ronaldo replied: "I think they have the potential to do it the same. I hope not. But they have potential.

"They still have a good team. Some players are in their prime. They play good football.

"I think they have a good chance to win the Champions League again. But we will see. Many factors will happen."

Both City and Madrid took a perfect 18 points during the group stage.

City will now face Copenhagen in the round of 16, while Madrid will meet RB Leipzig.

Copenhagen qualified for the knockout phase by finishing above one of Ronaldo's former clubs in Group A.

The Danish side lost 1-0 at Old Trafford but beat Manchester United 4-3 at home and went on to finish second in the group. United came last.
