Erling Haaland was the best player in world football in 2023, according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.

Haaland topped a vote to win the IFFHS award, ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi in second and third respectively.

Rodri, Jude Bellingham, Kevin De Bruyne, Harry Kane, Bernardo Silva, Vinicius Junior and Lautaro Martinez completed the top 10.

Cristiano Ronaldo failed to make the top 10 despite scoring more goals in 2023 than any other player - 53 with one game left to play.

Ronaldo seemingly did not agree with the IFFHS rankings.

After Portuguese publication A Bola posted the rankings on Instagram, Ronaldo replied with three laughing emojis.

Ronaldo will play his final game of 2023 on Saturday when Al Nassr visit Al-Taawoun in the Saudi Pro League.

The 38-year-old has scored 43 goals in 49 games for Al Nassr since moving to Saudi Arabia in January.

He has also netted 10 goals in nine matches for Portugal this year.
