Eden Hazard will become a free agent at the end of this month after he and Real Madrid reached an agreement to terminate his contract early.

The 32-year-old had been under contract with Real until June 2024 but it was decided that a clean break this summer would be best for both parties.

Hazard is still Madrid's most expensive signing ever, after the club paid Chelsea a transfer fee in excess of $100m to prize him away from Stamford Bridge in 2019.

But he has only played in 54 league games over the past four years, which have been punctuated by injury issues.

Hazard has featured just six times in La Liga this season.

A club statement issued on Saturday read: "Real Madrid CF and Eden Hazard have reached an agreement whereby the player will be released from the club as of June 30, 2023.

"Hazard has been part of our club for four seasons, in which he has won eight titles: one European Cup, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, two leagues, one Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.

"Real Madrid wants to express its affection for Eden Hazard and wishes him and his entire family the best of luck in this new stage."

Hazard is not the only player leaving the Bernabeu this summer.

Fellow attackers Mariano and Marco Asensio will also depart on free transfers at the end of the season.
