Edouard Mendy Becomes Third Player To Leave Chelsea For Saudi Arabia This Summer

Edouard Mendy has signed for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

The 31-year-old Senegal goalkeeper has penned a three-year contract in Jeddah after Al-Ahli paid Chelsea a transfer fee said to be in the region of £16 million.

Mendy joined Chelsea from Rennes for £22m in 2020 and went on to feature in 105 games for the London club.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Mendy helped Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

In 2021, he won The Best FIFA Goalkeeper award.

Mendy is the third player to leave Chelsea to sign for a club in Saudi Arabia this summer.

Kalidou Koulibaly joined Al-Hilal for £20m earlier this month, after N'Golo Kante had signed for Al-Ittihad on a free transfer.

Hakim Ziyech could soon become the fourth player to swap Stamford Bridge for Saudi Arabia this summer as the Morocco winger is said to be in talks with Al Nassr.

Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al Nassr are all owned by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

The Saudi PIF is also an investor in Clearlake Capital, which is a major shareholder in Chelsea FC.
