Erling Haaland Breaks Premier League Record For Most Goals In One Season
Erling Haaland has broken the Premier League record for most goals scored in a single season.
The Manchester City striker became the first player ever to reach 35 EPL goals in one campaign when he found the net 70th minutes into Wednesday's 3-0 win over West Ham with a fine lobbed finish.
Haaland's strike, which was set up by Jack Grealish, came after Nathan Ake had headed City in front five minutes into the second half.
Phil Foden completed the scoring at the Etihad Stadium with what was City's 1,000th goal since Pep Guardiola was appointed as manager in 2016.
Prior to Haaland, Andy Cole and Alan Shearer had shared the record, having each produced a 34-goal season in the 1990s when the Premier League was a 22-team competition.
Cole scored 34 goals in 40 games for Newcastle in the 1993/94 campaign, before it took Shearer 42 matches to net 34 times in 1994/95.
Wednesday's game at the Etihad Stadium was only Haaland's 31st Premier League appearance.
Haaland was congratulated by his teammates after the game. Manager Guardiola organized a guard of honor for Haaland as he left the field.
