Erling Haaland will not feature for Manchester City in Sunday's game away at Luton Town.

The 23-year-old is the leading scorer in this season's Premier League with 14 goals.

But he suffered a foot injury during Wednesday's 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa, meaning that his run of 15 consecutive starts must come to an end.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Sunday's game, City manager Pep Guardiola explained why Haaland was not in his matchday squad.

"Bone stress reaction [in his] feet," said Guardiola. "After the last game against Aston Villa he felt like this and he cannot play."

Asked if it looked like a bad injury, Guardiola replied: "I don't know. Week by week, day by day, we will see what happens."

With Haaland out of action, Julian Alvarez will start as City's central striker at Kenilworth Road.

Like Haaland, Alvarez has featured in each of City's first 15 league matches of the season, though he was predominantly used as an attacking midfielder in those games.

The former River Plate forward will be hoping to add to his tally of Premier League goals on Sunday.

Alvarez currently has 13 EPL goals to his name, having played 44 times in England's top division.
