Erling Haaland Says Watching Cristiano Ronaldo Videos On YouTube Inspired Him To Become Better Inside The Box
Erling Haaland has revealed that watching videos of Cristiano Ronaldo on YouTube helped him learn how to become a top striker.
Ronaldo began his career as a winger but developed into arguably the best center-forward in world soccer during his nine seasons at Real Madrid.
Speaking to TV2 this week, Haaland said that Ronaldo was his "main" inspiration when it came to working on his play within the penalty area.
He added: "I remember always watching him on YouTube for his movements in the box.
"He used to make two or three moves before attacking the space he wanted to be in. It's kind of a duel in that situation with the center-backs. It is important to time it perfectly."
Haaland continued: "How Cristiano moves, and how he has managed to develop his game... You remember when he played in Manchester United and the first years in Real Madrid, to become more of a striker in Real Madrid.
"It is incredible for him that he manages. But also how he scores the goals. It is the small movements in the box, and being able to deceive the defenders."
Haaland, 23, has been a sensation since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in July 2022.
The Norway international has scored 69 goals in his first 71 games for City.
Nevertheless, he is unlikely ever to break the world record for most career goals scored by one player.
That record currently belongs to Ronaldo, who is on 865 goals at the age of 38.
