Fernando Diniz has been fired from his role as interim manager of the Brazil men's national team.

Diniz was given the Brazil job in July on a one-year deal.

The plan was that he would then be replaced by Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season when the Italian left Real Madrid.

However, Ancelotti decided last week to sign a new contract with Madrid.

The Brazilian Football Confederation said in a statement on Friday that president Ednaldo Rodrigues had informed Diniz that he wanted to "advance the process" of finding a permanent coach.

The statement added: "The CBF thanks Fernando Diniz for his work, his dedication, his seriousness and for the challenge of revamping Brazil."

Diniz had been in charge of Brazil on a part-time basis while also managing Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense.

He lost three of his six games as Brazil boss, winning two and drawing one.
