A message posted by Folarin Balogun on social media this week has fueled hope that the 21-year-old will decide to represent the USMNT.

Balogun is currently on loan from Arsenal at Reims in France and he has been in superb form this season.

The striker has scored 16 goals in 26 games in Ligue 1, placing him behind only Jonathan David and Kylian Mbappe in the race for the Golden Boot.

Balogun's fine record at Reims was not enough to earn him a place in Gareth Southgate's latest England squad though.

After the squad was announced on Thursday, Balogun wrote on Instagram: "In life, go where you're appreciated."

This post may well have been a hint about Balogun's international future.

Balogun was born in New York but moved to London aged two.

He has played predominantly for England during his youth career but also represented the USA at under-18 level in 2018.

Balogun has not yet made his senior international debut, so his options remain open.

As well as being eligible to play for England and the USA, he could choose to represent Nigeria, where both his parents were born.
