England qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship with a game to spare on Sunday night.

A 2-0 win over Israel took Lee Carsley's Young Lions to six points after two games, meaning they will finish top of Group C even if they lose to the Czech Republic in their final match during the round-robin phase.

Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White was England's star man as he assisted both goals in front of over 5,000 fans in Kutaisi, Georgia.

Newcastle's Anthony Gordon headed England in front on 16 minutes after a Gibbs-White cross.

Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe then made sure of the victory by scoring his second goal of the tournament midway through the second half.

England first-team manager Gareth Southgate was among the crowd.

Next up is a clash with Germany in Batumi on Wednesday. England will then begin the knockout rounds next Sunday.

Their quarter-final opponent will be the side that finishes second in Group A. That could be Portugal, Belgium, Georgia or the Netherlands.

England have not been U21 European champions since 1984.
