Graham Potter Emotional After Chelsea Beat Borussia Dortmund
Chelsea manager Graham Potter admitted he was feeling emotional after watching his side overcome Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League round of 16.
After losing the first leg in Germany 1-0 last month, Chelsea won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to earn a 2-1 victory on aggregate.
Tuesday's match was Chelsea's 13th game of 2023 but the first in which they had scored more than one goal.
Potter spoke to BT Sport after the game and he seemed very happy with his team's improved performance.
Asked how he was feeling, Potter replied: "I'm not sure! There is a lot of emotion in the end.
"It was tense in the end but the boys played fantastic.
"I am delighted for them to get the win and great for everyone here."
Potter was then quizzed about a controversial decision which had enabled Kai Havertz to score the game's second goal from a retaken penalty.
Havertz had hit the post with his initial effort but the Dortmund player who then collected the rebound and cleared the loose ball, Salih Ozcan, was penalized for encroachment.
Asked what he knew about the penalty incident, Potter said: "Not a massive amount to be honest. I knew they had encroached."
He added: "Obviously we have confidence in Kai. I wasn't watching it but was delighted when I heard the roar.
"Taking penalties is not for me, so I am in awe of anybody [who does].
"There was a fantastic feeling in the dressing room. We have been through a tough period and this competition means a lot for us.
"We wanted to progress and get into the last eight and it sets us up for the next few weeks.
"We have to recover and prepare for Saturday when we play Leicester. It is great for the boys, two clean sheets after a tough period. You get that in life and it is about how you respond and the players have been fantastic.
"It was important we put pressure on them and got the crowd with us. It is not easy to do because they are a top team playing with confidence.
"Credit to the players they gave everything and over the two games I thought we deserved to go through."
