Tottenham Sign Italy Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario From Empoli
Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been announced as Tottenham Hotspur's first signing under new manager Ange Postecoglou.
Vicario has joined Spurs for an undisclosed transfer fee from Empoli and signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club.
The 26-year-old has been given the no.13 squad number by Tottenham but he may become the club's first choice keeper.
Hugo Lloris has been Tottenham's no.1 since 2014 but the former France captain recently revealed that he was keen to take on a new challenge.
Tottenham had been hoping to sign Brentford keeper David Raya but decided to move for Vicario instead because he was cheaper.
Vicario was highly rated in Italy and had previously attracted interest from Juventus and Inter Milan.
Vicario has kept 14 clean sheets in 69 starts for Empoli over the past two Serie A seasons.
His former clubs also include Perugia, Cagliari and Venezia.
Vicario was recently called up by Italy but he has yet to make his debut at international level.
A statement published on Tottenham's official website described Vicario as a "commanding goalkeeper with the ability to play out from the back".
