Harry Kane Loses Cup Final On Bayern Munich Debut As Dani Olmo Scores Hat-Trick In Shock RB Leipzig Win
Harry Kane made his first appearance for Bayern Munich on Saturday but it was not the dream debut that many had scripted.
It had been hoped that Kane would win the first team trophy of his senior career on his very first day as a Bayern player.
But Bayern fell to a shock 3-0 home loss to RB Leipzig in the German Supercup final as Dani Olmo stole the show by scoring a hat-trick.
Kane's Bundesliga record transfer from Tottenham Hotspur had only been officially announced 11 hours before kick off in Saturday's game.
After training with his teammates for the first time in the afternoon, Kane started on the bench at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern's plan had been for Kane to make a late cameo before picking up his first ever winners' medal.
But Olmo was not a fan of that plan.
Kane watched on with a worried look on his face as Olmo scored two goals inside the opening 44 minutes to fire RB Leipzig 2-0 up.
Olmo's second was a brilliant goal that Kane would have been proud of. The Spain striker spun Matthijs de Ligt with a brilliant turn before coolly slotting a shot past Sven Ulreich.
Bayern had multiple chances to get back into the match, but a combination of poor finishing by their attackers and good goalkeeping by Janis Blaswich kept Leipzig in front.
Sixty-three minutes into the game, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel played his trump card by throwing on Kane in place of teenager Mathys Tel.
But Bayern were 3-0 down before Kane touched the ball.
Olmo completed his hat-trick for Leipzig from a 68th-minute penalty kick awarded for a Noussair Mazraoui handball.
Kane was wearing the no.9 jersey for Bayern and he played like a traditional nine in terms of the positions he took up.
Rather than coming deep to start moves like he had in recent seasons for Spurs, Kane had seemingly been asked to make himself a target.
But he failed to register a single shot during his 30 minutes of game time.
Kane will make his Bundesliga debut away at Werder Bremen on Friday.
