Jordan Henderson Reaches Contract Termination Agreement With Ettifaq
Jordan Henderson has reached an agreement with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq to terminate his contract.
Henderson signed a three-year contract with Ettifaq in July when he arrived from Liverpool in a £12 million transfer.
It was reported by The Athletic that Henderson's contract in Damman was worth close to £700,000 per week, although the player later suggested that this figure had been exaggerated.
Henderson will have to take a massive pay-cut regardless of where he moves next.
He will also be hit with a large tax bill because his salary in Saudi Arabia was only tax free on the proviso that he stayed in the country for at least two years.
According to Sky Sports, as well as agreeing to terminate Henderson's contract, Ettifaq have let him leave the club's training camp in Abu Dhabi.
Henderson is now expected to return to England, where he will assess his options.
Ajax in Holland is said to be a possible destination for Henderson, who played just 19 games for Ettifaq.
Ettifaq, managed by Henderson's former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, currently sit eighth in the Saudi Pro League table.
