Roma fired manager Jose Mourinho on Tuesday.

Mourinho had been in charge of the Serie A club for two and a half years, having been appointed in July 2021.

He ended the club's 14-year trophy drought when he led Roma to glory in the inaugural edition of the UEFA Europa Conference League in his first season with the club.

Twelve months later, Roma reached the final of the Europa League.

Roma finished sixth in Serie A in each of Mourinho's two full seasons but he left with the club ninth in the table.

Following a Coppa Italia loss to rivals Lazio last week, Mourinho compared himself to Harry Potter and suggested that his reputation had seen Roma's expectations raise unreasonably high.

Mourinho's last game in charge of Roma was a 3-1 defeat by AC Milan on Sunday.

Club owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin said in a statement on Tuesday: "We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.

"We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

"We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavors."

Mourinho took charge of 138 matches as Roma boss, winning 68, drawing 31 and losing 39.

His win-rate with Roma was 49.28% - the lowest of his managerial career.
